What is the STEM XR Challenge?

The STEM XR Challenge asks students to use a design thinking process to identify problems in their community and develop solutions using extended reality technologies. Students visit the STEM Innovation Lab to have an immersive experience with extended reality technologies and begin ideating and prototyping their solutions using CoSpaces.

In response to COVID-19, we were also able to offer a remote learning option for schools participating in the STEM XR Challenge. We supplied the schools with Cardboard VR headsets and delivered sessions online for the students. We were very proud of the students' ability to adapt to the changing environment and the great results they were able to achieve even whilst learning remotely.

Celebrating Student Success

At the end of the STEM XR challenge there are 3 prizes awarded:

STEMXR Future Innovator

The Future Innovator Award

Celebrating creativity and out-of-the-box thinking

STEMXR Problem Solver

The Practical Problem Solver

For the most realistic, on- topic solution

STEMXR Moonshot

For going above and beyond

Students participating in the XR Challenge were originally going to present their work at the CESA STEM Forum at the end of the year. While this is no longer going ahead, we are excited to let you know that we will still be awarding prizes and celebrating students’ achievements virtually!

We are very inspired by this year's students' real world solutions and look forward to welcoming the next cohort of students and teachers to the STEM Innovation Lab.
